What I do
Services
A few different kinds of work, but they all start from the same place: treat your infrastructure, and the data that runs through it, as something you can version, test, and rebuild from scratch.
DevOps & infrastructure automation
Most operations teams already know what their systems should look like. The hard part is enforcing it consistently, testing changes before they hit production, and not being scared of the next OS upgrade.
I help teams:
- Move ad-hoc Linux administration into Ansible, or replace older Ansible that’s grown into a tangle.
- Build CI/CD for infrastructure changes: a virtual replica of the network or platform, automated tests, change review that means something.
- Design rollout patterns for large deployments: canary, staged, observable.
- Untangle the parts of a platform that “everyone’s afraid to touch.”
- Bring DevOps practices into teams where ops and development still throw work over the wall.
Typical engagements run from a focused two-week assessment to a multi-month build-out alongside an existing ops or platform team.
Data integration & insights
Most companies I’ve worked with run somewhere between five and fifteen internal systems: monitoring, billing, CRM, provisioning, ticketing, network management, asset inventory. The interesting questions almost always live between them.
I help teams:
- Pipe data from those systems into one place where it can be queried, joined, and acted on.
- Build the triggers that turn signals into action. A contract change updating monitoring scope, a ticket updating provisioning state, a capacity threshold opening a workorder.
- Replace fragile point-to-point integrations with something a future engineer can read.
- Surface the insights that were always in the data but never visible: utilization, churn signals, lead time, incident patterns.
Software & systems rescue
When the system that runs your business stops working, the developer who wrote it is no longer around, and there’s no documentation to fall back on, the only way through is to learn the system from the inside out.
I help teams:
- Diagnose legacy software when nobody on the team can read the codebase any more.
- Reverse engineer binaries when the source is lost or never existed in the first place.
- Patch and rebuild critical components without breaking everything around them.
- Document what’s actually happening, so the next round of work doesn’t start from scratch.
This is hourly, time-boxed work by nature. Usually a few hours to a few days; sometimes longer if the system is genuinely large.
Building automation
The same automation discipline applies to physical buildings: sensors, controllers, KNX/Modbus/MQTT, the lot. I’ve built and integrated these for both personal and professional projects, and there’s a real gap between off-the-shelf domotica and the kind of integration that a serious owner-operator actually wants.
This is a narrower offering, and I take it on selectively.
How I work
- I take on a small number of engagements at a time so the ones I do take get real attention.
- I prefer fixed-scope, time-boxed work over open-ended retainers.
- I’m based in Arnhem (NL) and work with clients across the Netherlands and remotely elsewhere.
- Working language: Dutch or English.
